Who Makes The Best T-Shirt: Gildan vs Fruit Of The Loom

If you’ve made the choice to create printed t-shirts, your next question is likely to be: which brand do I choose? Choosing the right t-shirt is vital to the overall finish of your t-shirts and how the print displays, but different brands bring something new to the table, from different weights to the fit and print quality. Two of the most popular t-shirt brands for printing are Gildan and Fruit of the Loom, each of which has its own set of pros and cons to consider when deciding which brand is best suited to your needs.

Pros: Fruit Of The Loom

Fruit of the Loom offers t-shirts that wash well without any shrinkage or colour fading. They offer a modern fit and are comfortable to wear, with breathability and softness that makes them feel high quality. Their t-shirts range from XS to 5XL, as well as offering kids sizes too. Fruit of the Loom provide a variety of styles and material options to choose from too, from cotton blends to long-sleeved and neck lines.

Cons: Fruit Of The Loom

The Original tee is just 135gsm for white and 145gsm for coloured options, so they have a thinner feel. The range of colours also isn’t as broad as with Gildan, with 29 colours to choose from.

Pros: Gildan

Gildan offers a great range of colour options, with over 60 shades to choose from. They’re made from cotton, providing an ultra-soft and comfortable fit. The fabric used for Gildan t-shirts is pre-shrunk, so there’s no worry about your t-shirts becoming unwearable after you’ve washed them. Gildan also offers a wide range of sizes, from XS to 5XL and youth sizes, so it’s a versatile brand to use that suits a variety of people.

Cons: Gildan

Certain colours aren’t 100% cotton, made instead from a cotton-polyester blend, so bear this in mind when choosing the colours for your prints if you want a t-shirt made exclusively from cotton. The sizing on Gildan t-shirts is a little generous, so it runs a bit larger than standard t-shirt sizes.

Conclusion: Gildan Vs Fruit Of The Loom

Fruit of the Loom t-shirts tick all the boxes for screen printing, with an open-yarn material that gives a smoother and more stable print area. The Valueweight t-shirts offer great print quality and value at 165gsm, while Gildan offer excellent colour options and are great value for promotional items. However, at 150gsm for colours and 141 gsm for Softstyle white t-shirts, the material may be a little thin for some people.
