How To Design The Perfect Logo

How To Design The Perfect Logo

The logo is an essential part of any brand. In fact, it’s probably the most important part. It will appear on all of your marketing, it’s the focal point of your social media accounts, your employee’s uniform, your customers will associate you with it forever. Your logo is your brand. So, you want to get right. It can seem daunting at first, especially if you aren’t a designer by trade. Fortunately, we’ve got some great tips to help you design the perfect logo.

Keep It Simple

The first rule of great logo design is simplicity. Think about the greatest logos of all time: Nike, Apple, FedEx, McDonald’s. What do they have in common? They’re all simple. You can use this as inspiration for your own logo design. Stick to one font or image and don’t try and fit your marketing messages in there. Many business owners tend to want to say everything at once, but a great logo isn’t about that. It’s about making your brand memorable. Simplicity is memorable.

Make It Scalable

Logos have to be scalable. It has to make just as much sense on a billboard as it does on your letterhead. That means it needs to be super clear and not have illegible fonts or complex images. Use colours that stick out and work on any background.

Be Brave

The best way to stick out in your customer’s minds is by doing something different. Of course, you could put your company’s name in a nice font and create a logo just like that. But who’s going to remember that? Think about Playboy as an example. They used a black and white picture of a rabbit with a bowtie on. It might not be the obvious choice, but it’s one of the most memorable logos in history.

Check it Works in Different Environments

Your logo will be everywhere. It’s going to be on your website, social media, print marketing, promotional clothing, business cards, and just about everywhere else. It needs to look good in different environments. When you have designed your logo and you think you’re happy with it, test it by putting it in lots of different environments. Try different colours, sizes, and backgrounds.

It Should Make Sense

Great logos make sense. It might seem like a great idea to put a picture of an eagle flying over your company name, but it doesn’t mean anything. If you are going to use images in your logo, think carefully about how they relate to your brand.

Trust Your Gut

What’s your gut response to your logo. Do you like it? If you’re not 100%, maybe it’s time to go back to the drawing board. After all, you are going to have to look at the logo every day. It’s also worth asking as many people as possible for their opinion. Ask for honesty and make a tally chart of their responses.

Take A Step Back

It’s too easy to get too involved in the design process. You can spend so long looking at a logo, you just can’t wait to approve it and get it out the way. Take a step back and don’t rush the process.
